Our Mission
This corporation is a nonprofit public benefit corporation and is not organized for the private gain of any person. It is organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law for charitable purposes. The specific purpose for which this corporation is organized is to provide a sober environment for gay men, lesbians, and others recovering from alcoholism, drug addiction, and problems related to recovery from these diseases.
Who We Are
Sober in the Sun is a volunteer based organization made up of members from the LGBTQ+ recovery community. This organization produces events which include, but are not limited to, workshops, panels, service meetings, assemblies, sober social gatherings, and an annual four day roundup for individuals in recovery and their significant others. The roundup known as Sober in the Sun is held in Palm Springs of Riverside County, California.
Non-Profit Status
Sober in the Sun Inc. is exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to Sober in the Sun, Inc. are deductible under section 170 of the Code. Sober in the Sun, Inc. is qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under section 2055, 2106 or 2522 of the code.
Sober in the Sun, Inc. is classified as a public charity under Code section 509(a)(2). Sober in the Sun, Inc. is exempt from California state franchise and income tax under section 23701d of the California Revenue and Taxation Code.
